Yes, a big difference between men’s and women’s football boots is the shoe’s fit. Women have a different foot shape and structure to that of men, so our sports footwear is tailored to suit their needs. Because of these differences, PUMA women’s football boots are recommended for optimum comfort, performance and safety for the female player.

What is different about women's football boots?

An important difference between men’s and women’s football boots has to do with the foot shape. Generally speaking, the female foot is more narrow, lower in volume and has a smaller instep height than the male foot.  Feminine footwear, including women’s indoor football shoes, comes with a slimmer fit and a smaller instep height, rendering each pair lower in volume compared to models for men or unisex designs. Can a woman wear men's football boots?

Women can play in men's (or unisex) footwear, subject to the size run, although it is not recommended. Due to the differences between men’s and women’s football bootst, we would always recommend wearing women’s specific football boots, to optimise comfort, safety and performance. Wearing male football boots leaves female players at risk of injury, due to a poor-fit and lack of support from the boot - it is thought that this could be one factor accounting for the higher number of ACL injuries in the women's game.
